Water and Food for All!

Encouraging a dialogue and innovative collaboration between humanitarian initiatives and the business community.
Down to earth well-defined projects for corporations to take on board as their CSR activity
Water and Food Award (WAF) provides access to partner with well defined sustainable water and food projects which can help your Company to:
- have a strong business case
- develop new science
- develop new products
- actualize Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
- test products in challenging environments
At a yearly Award Event WAF invites companies to participate in finding partners among the nominated water and food projects. These initiatives have been selected and certified on the basis of sustainability, innovation, empowerment and impact.
The best performing nominated project that makes a considerable difference in supplying water and food to people in need will be awarded with the Water and Food Award.
The first Award Event took place in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 25th 2010.
Ernst von Franck, Managing Director, Bayer CropScience Nordic Countries: “Our company slogan is “Science for a Better Life”. As an enterprise we certainly need to earn money – but not without a purpose! At the same time our business activities need to contribute to the social wellbeing and to protecting the environment. This means that our activities need to show positive results at each of these three bottom lines. Without a positive triple bottom line no activitity is sustainable. The Humanitarian Water and Food award is awarding initiatives which not only improve access to water and food as a charitable activity but support initiatives that at the same time create economic value and respect/protect the environment. By doing so The WAF is supporting truly sustainable projects which contribute positively to the triple bottom line and will not come to an end in times when charity funds run out.
This is one of the reasons why Bayer CropScience is supporting The WAF and is even exploring the possibility to turn this support into a sustainable business case which is contributing also to our triple bottom line: economically, environmentally and socially!”
The Award and Social Innovation
Famine and malnutrition are the main health hazards globally.
More than 153 million children under the age of five suffer from chronic famine and 6 million of these children die from hunger every year.
The Humanitarian Water & Food Award’s goal is to support, recognize and highlight sustainable humanitarian projects that make a considerable difference in providing water and food to people in need, and help them to become self sufficient. It is also to provide a platform for corporations to engage in Corporate Social Responsibility activities and identify a business case together with WAF and an applicant.
