The CEO Water Mandate |
|
Launched in July 2007, the CEO Water Mandate is a unique public-private initiative designed to assist companies in the development, implementation and disclosure of water sustainability policies and practices.
It is increasingly clear that lack of access to clean water and sanitation in many parts of the world causes great suffering in humanitarian, social, environmental and economic terms, and seriously undermines development goals. Related, there is a growing consensus that this emerging crisis presents the private sector with a range of risks – and, in some instances, opportunities. It is also recognized that current water-management practices are inadequate given the increasing materiality and importance of water as a resource.
I thought I would alert you to our debate in November. These debates are always thought-provoking and engaging.
Earthwatch Debate: From Tsunami to Drought
Thursday 19th November, 7.00pm – 9.00pm at the Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AR
Chaired by award winning broadcaster Andrea Catherwood.
Three experts will be joined by an enterprising member of the public to present solutions to the looming crisis of access to water for drinking and sanitation. Our speakers will then be interrogated by a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style panel before you, the audience, cast the deciding vote.
Please see: http://www.earthwatch.org/europe/get_involved/events09/debate09/
Ticket only – free to students and current Earthwatch donors; otherwise a donation will be requested on the door.
For tickets and/or more information contact our Events Department on (01865) 318856; events@earthwatch.org.uk
I would be very grateful if you could circulate details to colleagues and contacts.
If you would also like to nominate someone as a potential speaker (the member of the public should be in the age range 18-30) please do let us know.
